Hi,
This is non-technical and thus off-topic, so this kind of discussion
should be very limited. It's not directly productive and is somewhat
of a waste of time. (Since he is posting anonymously in public and
not in private email, I can only respond here.)
It would've been nice to avoid, but this problem is not going away,
so I need to face it head-on.
Apparently some people are not getting along and are continually
disrupting various newsgroups. In particular, T. Ment is
having problems with Rod P. (whom I respect), e.g. at
news://alt.os.development (see April 5th messages under the
"A20 thread"). I would rather not see good developers shy
away from Usenet due to such bitter disputes.
I realize that it's naive to always expect improvement from simple
words. I also realize that some problems cannot be solved or avoided.
Still, it should be clarified.
(continued below)
The devil ("accuser, backbiter, slanderer") is a liar.
As a self-professed Christian, you should know this. Apparently,
one of the best ways to oppose the devil's lies is with the truth,
a.k.a. the word of God.
"Whoever corrects the arrogant earns insults; and whoever reproves
the wicked incurs opprobrium. Do not reprove the arrogant, lest
they hate you; reprove the wise, and they will love you."
(Proverbs 9)
"Do not answer fools according to their folly, lest you too become
like them. Answer fools according to their folly, lest they become
wise in their own eyes."
(Proverbs 26)
"A house divided cannot stand." (Matthew 12)
"All bitterness, fury, anger, shouting, and reviling must be removed
from you, along with all malice." (Ephesians 4)
"If possible, on your part, live at peace with all." (Romans 12)
"Odious to the LORD and to men is arrogance, and the sin of oppression
they both hate." (Sirach 10)
"Pride goes before disaster, and a haughty spirit before a fall."
(Proverbs 16)
"If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love,
I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal." (1 Corinthians 13)
"Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, [love] is not pompous,
it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests,
it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not
rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things"
(1 Corinthians 13)
to offer useful advice whenever I have it. Helping others also
helps me. So, yes, I volunteer for FreeDOS (and prefer free/libre)
although my abilities are limited.
Many websites won't mirror software that isn't free/libre or at
least "open source" (OSI), e.g. SourceForge or Github. It varies,
but to be safe, it's best to use Free tools so that things can be
shared openly without legal worry. For practical reasons,
especially, this is a good idea.
(For bizarre reasons, you seem blissfully naive and almost reckless
in your disregard of human copyright laws. They are not perfect and
certainly not absolute, but we do still have to obey just authority.
Just because nobody stops you [yet] doesn't mean you're justified.)
This is not my agenda towards you. I don't have an agenda. But I
do have to tell the truth.
(six months) since that "discussion" on this very newsgroup
(subject "game programming") where I politely pointed you
to many links (i.e. proof) and clarifications. To continue
to spout errors willingly is false witness, especially since
you had zero interaction with anyone involved and weren't
involved in the dispute. It makes no sense to be so stubborn
for no gain, without cause.
I was the one trying to relay information back and forth
on the SF.net bug tracker on his behalf, prompted by Jim Hall.
(Yes, Jack directly contacted Jim and me for help.)
He directly blames me (falsely) for going closed source,
thus continues to punish everyone for my (non-existent) sin.
I corrected him, but he still didn't care. He has issues
that are unrelated to me.
serving" without provocation. You called others "losers" for
giving me (very limited) authority.
Just to reiterate (since the truth is always important), FreeDOS
tries to give away Free software to the world, but bitter
developers with (false) grudges instead try to punish everyone
for zero personal gain. We tried hard to keep Jack happy,
trying to fix (or at least workaround) his bug. We were
sympathetic, but he absolutely went insane with anger
and took a lot of vengeful and unjust actions against us
(admittedly minor, in the grand scheme of things, but
still horribly rude, stressful, and destructive).
He's not a hero, and neither are you. Neither of you is doing
the Lord's work, nor helping anyone else. (How can all
three of us be self-professed Christians but be so divided
and opposed to one another? But clearly I can't take any
direct blame here. Some people just can't tell the truth!)
These pointless disputes are disruptive and a waste of time.
"Into the killfile you must go" was your reaction to my proof (!),
but even that you didn't do. Frankly, your behavior is unjust,
and you seemed to also ignore Rod's (April 5th) unrelated rebukes
against you. Your attitude stinks.
I don't know what you're going through. Life is tough.
I don't know why you're lashing out so often. I don't
know who hurt you. All I can do is pray for you. These
kind of divisions and acrimony don't come from God
and are thus unjustified.
You're setting a bad example of Christianity (not that most
people care, they're already falsely convinced otherwise).
Your unorthodox brand of Christianity is a bit misguided,
to say the least. According to Wikipedia, someone like myself is
"more perfectly bound to the Church ... more strictly obliged
to spread and defend the faith by word and deed".
I pity us for having to suffer such a broken world. It is a
legitimate sorrow. We're supposed to collaborate and get along,
to build up God's good kingdom here on Earth, not squabble
and destroy each other. We already have a real enemy, we
don't need to be our own!

I didn't ask for alternatives to SYMDEB, or what "most others" think.
You started that fight all by yourself.
